Want to know more about what to expect from our training courses and workshops? Here’s some recent feedback we’ve received from our partners and attendees:
“Pippa Coutts and Ailsa Cook from the Alliance for Useful Evidence delivered a masterclass for SOLACE Scotland members on using evidence in policy and practice. The session focused on evidence informed decision-making in the Scottish public sector, covering issues such as the use of evidence to understand progress towards outcomes, attribution and contribution in the context of the Scottish approach, identifying appropriate evidence and understanding bias.
“Pippa and Ailsa challenged delegates to think about how they might use evidence in the context of their work to better inform decision making and to develop their theory of change. The masterclass was very well received, with all delegates agreeing that it was of relevance to their work as public service leaders.
“The evaluations indicated that delegates had taken away the following key learning – understanding the importance of evidence and research to support leadership and strategic development; better understanding of the range of research evidence and the differences in the quality and evidential weighing of evidence; understanding how actions contribute to outcomes; and being conscious of bias in the use of evidence to inform decision making.”

“We have arranged two Evidence Masterclasses through The Alliance for Useful Evidence which have helped to energise our work in this area. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on their own biases when using evidence as well as picking up some tips from the extensive experience of the facilitators. We asked participants for reflective logs in the few weeks following the Masterclass and these were invaluable in providing insights that have helped us to better understand the barriers to evidence use and what action we need to take.”
