Evidence Declaration for Professional Bodies
Tuesday 7th of November 2017 The Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AG 8:30am - 10:30am
This invitation-only roundtable event will invite leaders and heads of professional bodies to sign an evidence declaration, written by Jonathan Shepherd, Professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Cardiff University and fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Our aim is to embed the declaration principles within the strategic objectives of signatories' respective professional bodies.
Professional bodies, exemplified by the Medical Royal Colleges and engineering institutions, are major influences on the daily practice of the hundreds of thousands of professionals who are their members and fellows. Through their conditions of membership, training and continuous professional development provision, and policy making, these institutions drive evidence adoption (mobilisation). Standard setting and standard advancement have always been pre-eminent institutional priorities. This evidence declaration signals commitment to building these standards on the foundations of quality assured evidence.
This declaration follows the Professions Summit at the Institution of Civil Engineers in July 2013, organised by the Alliance for Useful Evidence and the Royal College of Surgeons. It involved the heads of 36 professional bodies, and was chaired by Lord Gus O'Donnell.
Please note that this is an invitation-only event.

- Speaker: Professor Dame Alison Peacock, CEO, Chartered College of Teaching
